There are suspected cases of dengue in Kwajalein, but these have not been confirmed as dengue. As of Wednesday, 41 people had been admitted to hospital, the Ministry said. Most have been released. Only 10 remained in hospital as the Journal went to press. Of these, four were children and six were adults. Of the 41 people who were hospitalized, 29 were at “stage one,” which means early; one was at the viral stage; and 11 were bleeding or at the hemorrhagic stage. – The Marshall Islands Journal
We are glad that of the 41 person hospitalized that 31 have been released. In an effort for promoting education we have visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong to bring forth some prevention methods. Bear in mind that the dengue fever is supposedly spread through mosquitos.
Dengue Fever Prevention Methods
1. Proper solid waste disposal, elimination of stagnant water in domestic environment and improved water storage practices.
2. Aerosol and liquid spray has to be applied directly to the adult mosquito for effective killing, e.g. household pesticides.
3. Mosquito coil and electric mosquito mat/ liquid has to be placed near possible entrance, such as window, for mosquitos.
4. Wear long-sleeved clothes and long trousers when going outdoors. Bodies could be protected from mosquito bite by applying insect repellent (containing DEET) on the clothes and exposed part of the body especially when you travel to Dengue Fever endemic areas.
5. Mosquito bednet could be used when the room is not air-conditioned.
